Arundo

A low-cost and sustainable biomass

Our company

We are a biotechnology
company that produces large
volumes of homogenous,
genetically stable and virusfree Arundo donax plantlets

The state of the art, world
wide patented technology is
developed and well-proven;
the research cooperation with
the University of South
Carolina exists since 2007

Sole license agreement to
utilise the technology with
USC in 2013 and renewed in
2019

Current capacity of around 9
million plantlets per year is
easily and swiftly scalable

Constant R+D activity to
develop new ecotypes (i.e.,
salt, cold, heavy metal
tolerant, etc.) and further
technological improvements

Existing partnerships in:
China, Brazil, Mauritius, Italy,
Spain, Slovakia, Serbia,
Hungary, India, Botswana and
Ethiopia

The plant produced: Arundo

Can be found in mild temperate, continental, Mediterranean, subtropical
and tropical regions, adapted to a wide variety of ecological conditions
• Grows on marginal land as well
• Perennial: lasts for 25-30 years with annual harvesting
• Annual yield: 50-80* dry tons per ha from the 3rd year, durable yields,
resistant to long drought periods.
• Not invasive (when not planted on riversides and wetlands): no fertile
seeds – no aggressively spreading rhizomes, proper agro-technology is
available for the termination of a plantation
• No environmental risks for international markets: the
propagation material is free from any viruses, pests and
pathogens
• No pollen, no allergen impact
• No GMO, ethical or biohazard risk

Low cost cultivation, low lifecycle costs:
• Regular agro-technology and harvesting (like corn)
• Perennial: no annual tillage or planting is required
• No specialized pests, no pesticides need
• Outgrows weeds, no herbicide treatment is
required
• Low fertilizer requirements: Does not rob the soil of
the nutrients, empty cell wall mass is harvested at
the end of the growing season because all mobile
nutrients are sequestered into the rhizomes
• Prevents soil erosion
